Signs of bird activity

Most people hear it before they see it.

None of these are certain on their own. Together they are usually enough to know the space under the array is being used.

  • Droppings on the roof, walls, or driveway

Concentrated streaking below the array line usually means birds are perching or roosting on the panel edges rather than passing through.

  • Noise coming from under the panels

Scratching, cooing, or flapping directly overhead in the morning is the most common way homeowners first notice the space is occupied.

  • Nesting material at the panel edges

Twigs, straw, and feathers pushed out past the frame are a sign the gap underneath is being used, not just landed on.

  • Debris in gutters below the array

Nesting material that works loose ends up in the gutter run directly beneath the panels, and blocks it.

  • Birds repeatedly landing on the same edge

A consistent approach line to one corner of the array usually marks the entry point.

Why birds gather underneath

The gap between a panel and the roof surface is warm, dry, shaded, and enclosed on five sides. From a pigeon’s point of view it is close to ideal.

It is also invisible from the ground and out of reach of anything that would otherwise discourage nesting. That is why the activity is usually well established by the time a homeowner notices it.

Once a site is being used, the material accumulates. Droppings and nesting debris collect on the roof surface beneath the panels, work into the gutter run below, and sit in an area that is difficult to reach without removing panels.

Our process

Inspect, clear, mesh, verify.

Bird-proofing is quoted after the inspection, never before it. The perimeter footage and the state of the area underneath decide the job.

  1. 01

    Inspection

We assess the array perimeter, look for accessible nesting debris and droppings, and identify the gaps birds are actually using to get underneath.

  2. 02

    Debris removal

Accessible inactive nesting debris is removed, and the affected areas we can safely reach are cleaned. Active nests are never disturbed. See our policy below.

  3. 03

    Perimeter mesh

Galvanized mesh is cut to the array and fitted around the exposed perimeter, closing the gap between panel edge and roof surface.

  4. 04

    Corners, gaps, and final check

Corners and visible entry points are secured, the full perimeter is walked and inspected, and you get a before-and-after photo report.

Non-invasive attachment

Our attachment methods are designed to avoid drilling into solar-panel frames. Clips fit to the panel edge and the existing mounting rail rather than penetrating the frame or the roof surface. If your installer or manufacturer has specific requirements for work around the array, tell us before we start and we will work to them.

What’s included

Everything in the Solar Protect package.

The gap between a solar panel and the roof beneath it is warm, dry, shaded, and enclosed on five sides. Pigeons and other birds find it quickly, and because it is invisible from the ground, the activity is usually well established before a homeowner notices.

Bird-proofing closes that gap. We inspect the array perimeter, remove accessible inactive nesting debris, clean the affected areas we can safely reach, and fit galvanized mesh around the exposed edge so the space underneath stops being an easy place to settle.

It is quoted per property rather than per panel, because layout, perimeter footage, roof type, access, contamination, and how far the activity has gone all change the job.

How bird-proofing is priced

Custom-quoted, because no two arrays are the same job.

Panel layout

How the array is arranged, and how many separate runs need enclosing.

Panel perimeter

The total linear footage of edge that has to be meshed.

Roof type

Tile, shingle, and flat roofs each change how the mesh is fitted and secured.

Accessibility

Pitch, height, and how safely the perimeter can be reached and worked.

Contamination

How much cleanup the area under and around the array needs first.

Severity of bird activity

Scattered droppings and a long-abandoned nest are not the same job.

We never remove or disturb active nests, birds, eggs, or young. Read our active-nest policy.

Active-nest policy

We never disturb an active nest.

We do not remove, relocate, or disturb active nests, birds, eggs, or young. Not for an extra fee, not on request, not as a favor.

Many bird species and their active nests are protected under state and federal law, and the penalties for interfering with them fall on the property owner as well as the contractor. When we find an active nest during an inspection, we photograph the situation, tell you what we found, and schedule the protection work for after the nest is naturally vacated.

If the situation needs handling sooner than that, we will tell you plainly that it is a job for a licensed wildlife control operator, and we are happy to hold your slot until they have finished.

Our promise

The Aurix Clean & Protected Guarantee.

If your panels aren’t visibly clean and spot-free when we finish, or our bird-proofing mesh loosens because of our workmanship within 5 years, we’ll return and correct it at no charge.

Seven-day spot-free guarantee

If visible spotting or residue caused by our cleaning appears within seven days, we’ll return and re-clean the affected panels at no charge.

5-year bird-proofing workmanship guarantee

If the mesh we installed loosens, detaches, or creates an entry gap because of our workmanship within 5 years, we’ll return and repair it at no charge.

Property cleanup promise

If we leave removed debris or installation materials behind, notify us within 24 hours and we’ll return to clean it up.

The guarantee covers Aurix’s cleaning result and our installation workmanship: that the panels are visibly clean and spot-free when we finish, and that the mesh we fitted stays fitted. It is not a performance warranty. We do not guarantee a level of electrical output, a specific saving, or that birds will never return to the property.

FAQ

Bird-proofing questions.

Because the space under a panel is one of the few genuinely sheltered spots on a house that nothing ever disturbs. Pigeons are the usual occupants in our area, and they return to a site that has worked before, which is why the problem tends to come back rather than pass. The other reason we get asked this is timing: homeowners almost always notice in spring, when a site that was occupied quietly all winter suddenly gets noisy.

Galvanized mesh is fitted around the exposed edge of the array so the gap beneath it is closed off, after the accessible debris underneath has been removed and the area cleaned. Two things matter more than the mesh itself: whether every entry point was actually found, and whether the corners were secured properly, because a perimeter is only as good as its weakest gap. That is why we walk and photograph the whole perimeter before we call the job done.

No. The mesh is held by clips that grip the panel edge and the existing mounting rail, so nothing penetrates the frame or the roof surface. If you ever have panels serviced or replaced, the mesh comes off and goes back on without leaving anything behind. Tell us before we start if your installer or manufacturer has specific requirements for work around the array, and we will work to them.

No. We do not remove, relocate, or disturb active nests, birds, eggs, or young, not for an extra fee and not on request. Many bird species and their active nests are protected under state and federal law. When we find an active nest we photograph it, tell you what we found, and schedule the protection work for after the nest is naturally vacated. If it needs handling sooner, that is a job for a licensed wildlife control operator, and we will hold your slot until they are done.

No, and be careful of anyone who tells you otherwise. Mesh closes the perimeter of the array so the space underneath stops being an easy place to settle. It does not control what birds do on the rest of your property, and it cannot account for later roof or panel modifications, storm damage, or animals working at it. What we do guarantee is our own workmanship: if the mesh we installed loosens, detaches, or creates an entry gap because of how we fitted it, we come back within 5 years and repair it at no charge.

It is always custom-quoted. Six things change the job: the panel layout, the total perimeter footage, the roof type, how safely the perimeter can be reached, how much cleanup the area needs first, and how far the bird activity has gone. You get the final project price at the end of the assessment, before any work starts.
