Solar panel cleaning in Palmdale.

High desert conditions, newer tract housing, and heavy solar adoption add up to the strongest case for panel cleaning we see.

Working in Palmdale

What we actually run into here.

Palmdale is high desert at roughly 2,600 feet, and the climate does things to a home that Valley-floor conditions simply do not. Intense UV, almost no rainfall for most of the year, and persistent wind carrying fine alkaline dust across open ground.

For the many Palmdale homes with solar, that combination is unusually hard on an array. The sun exposure is why the panels are here, but the dust load is the heaviest in our territory and it bonds rather than sitting loose. Owners who assume the occasional rain will handle it are usually surprised by what the before-and-after photos show.

The newer tract construction that dominates Palmdale helps in one respect: roof planes are large, uniform, and usually accessible from the ground with a water-fed pole. Glass is mostly modern dual-pane, which tolerates our mineral treatment well and generally needs it, because AV water is hard enough that anything left to air-dry spots immediately.

Local conditions

Heaviest dust load
Open high desert wind deposits fine alkaline dust that bonds to panels and glass.
Extreme UV
Relentless sun and almost no rain to move the dust along.
Very hard water
Anything air-dried spots immediately, so purified water is the only method that holds.

Solar panel cleaning in Palmdale

High desert dust does not rinse off.

Palmdale arrays get more sun than almost anywhere we work, and more dust with it. Wind across open desert carries fine alkaline dust that bonds to the glass, and rain is rare enough that nothing moves it along for most of the year.

Rinsing with a hose makes it worse. Antelope Valley water is hard, so tap water dries on the panels as a layer of mineral spots on top of the dust. We clean with purified water and soft bristles, which lifts the film and dries clear.

Most Palmdale homes are newer tracts with large, uniform roof planes, which usually means we can reach the whole array from the ground. The Solar Protection Assessment still checks underneath, because desert arrays that go untouched for months are a common place for birds to settle.

Every three to four months for most Palmdale homes. The dust load here is the heaviest in our service area.

FAQ

Solar panel questions in Palmdale.

Every three to four months for most homes. High desert wind, strong sun, and very little rain mean dust builds faster in Palmdale than anywhere else we work.

We would not. Antelope Valley tap water is hard, so it dries to mineral spots on the glass, and plain water does little to alkaline dust that has bonded to the panel. Purified water with a soft brush removes the film and dries spot-free.
