Solar panel cleaning
With purified water and a soft brush, and nothing else. The reason purified water matters is that it carries no dissolved minerals, so it dries without leaving the spotting that ordinary tap water leaves behind. Where an array can be reached safely from the ground we work from the ground, which is better for your landscaping and safer for our crew. Where it cannot, our technicians are trained and insured for roof work.
It is what happens before anyone quotes you a price. We work through four steps on the roof, in the same order every time, covering the system itself, the contamination on it, the bird activity under it, and the written report at the end. It usually takes twenty to thirty minutes on a residential array, it costs nothing, and you are under no obligation afterward. The result is photographs, a Solar Care Grade, your options, and a final project price. It is a visual assessment, not an electrical, roofing, wildlife, or engineering inspection.
A simple A-to-F description of the condition your array is in when we arrive, so the recommendation is not just our word against your eyes. Grade A is clean and protected; B is light contamination; C means cleaning is recommended; D means heavy contamination or bird activity; F means severe buildup, nesting, or that protection is strongly recommended. It grades what we can see on and around the panels. It is not a performance, electrical, production, or system-health grade.
In Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley, usually yes. Panels make power from the light that reaches the cells, and between April and November there is almost no rain here to wash off dust, pollen, wildfire ash, or bird droppings. Manufacturer advice that rain will handle it was not written for an inland valley that stays dry for eight months. We will not promise a percentage before seeing your roof, but the free assessment photographs what is on the glass, so you can decide with the evidence in front of you.
It depends far more on where you are than on how many panels you have. Most residential systems in the Santa Clarita Valley do well on a twice-yearly cadence. Properties in Palmdale, Lancaster, Castaic, or anywhere backing onto open terrain collect noticeably more dust and often warrant quarterly cleanings. Somewhere with heavy tree cover or established bird activity is its own conversation. We will tell you what we would actually do on your roof after the assessment.
Most standard residential systems in Santa Clarita run $150 to $250 for a cleaning. Where yours lands depends on the number of panels, how the array is reached, and how heavily it is soiled. The four-step Solar Protection Assessment is free, and you get a fixed price after it, before any work starts. Bird-proofing is quoted separately, and Solar Care Plan members get preferred pricing on every visit.
You can, but most homeowners here should not. Climbing onto a roof is the biggest risk, and the common shortcuts cause their own problems: tap water in Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley is hard and dries to mineral spots, dish soap leaves a film that attracts dust, and pressure washers and abrasive pads can damage seals and the glass coating. We use purified water and soft bristles from the ground wherever possible, which is safer and dries spot-free.
Request a quote online or call us. We book a free Solar Protection Assessment, usually within the week in the Santa Clarita Valley and on our next Antelope Valley trip for Palmdale and Lancaster. On the day we inspect, photograph, and grade the array, give you a fixed price, and can usually clean the same visit.
Our process is deliberately gentle: soft bristles, purified water, no chemicals, no pressure washing, and nothing abrasive against the glass. We cannot speak for what any individual manufacturer or installer permits, and we do not claim their approval. If your panel manufacturer, installer, or monitoring contract has specific requirements for work on or around the array, tell us before we start and we will work to them.
Most residential cleanings take one to two hours, including the free assessment. Larger arrays, steep or hard-to-reach roofs, and heavy buildup take longer. We give you a realistic window when we book.
Not usually. As long as we have access to the yard, the roof approach, and a water spigot, you can be at work. We do like to walk you through the Solar Care Report in person when you are around, because the photographs make more sense with someone pointing at them. Either way, we send you the report.
Bird-proofing
Because the space under a panel is one of the few genuinely sheltered spots on a house that nothing ever disturbs. Pigeons are the usual occupants in our area, and they return to a site that has worked before, which is why the problem tends to come back rather than pass. The other reason we get asked this is timing: homeowners almost always notice in spring, when a site that was occupied quietly all winter suddenly gets noisy.
Galvanized mesh is fitted around the exposed edge of the array so the gap beneath it is closed off, after the accessible debris underneath has been removed and the area cleaned. Two things matter more than the mesh itself: whether every entry point was actually found, and whether the corners were secured properly, because a perimeter is only as good as its weakest gap. That is why we walk and photograph the whole perimeter before we call the job done.
No. The mesh is held by clips that grip the panel edge and the existing mounting rail, so nothing penetrates the frame or the roof surface. If you ever have panels serviced or replaced, the mesh comes off and goes back on without leaving anything behind. Tell us before we start if your installer or manufacturer has specific requirements for work around the array, and we will work to them.
No. We do not remove, relocate, or disturb active nests, birds, eggs, or young, not for an extra fee and not on request. Many bird species and their active nests are protected under state and federal law. When we find an active nest we photograph it, tell you what we found, and schedule the protection work for after the nest is naturally vacated. If it needs handling sooner, that is a job for a licensed wildlife control operator, and we will hold your slot until they are done.
No, and be careful of anyone who tells you otherwise. Mesh closes the perimeter of the array so the space underneath stops being an easy place to settle. It does not control what birds do on the rest of your property, and it cannot account for later roof or panel modifications, storm damage, or animals working at it. What we do guarantee is our own workmanship: if the mesh we installed loosens, detaches, or creates an entry gap because of how we fitted it, we come back within 5 years and repair it at no charge.
It is always custom-quoted. Six things change the job: the panel layout, the total perimeter footage, the roof type, how safely the perimeter can be reached, how much cleanup the area needs first, and how far the bird activity has gone. You get the final project price at the end of the assessment, before any work starts.
Plans and guarantees
Scheduled purified-water cleanings at the cadence you pick, a visual panel-condition inspection on every visit, a visual check of any bird barrier we installed, before-and-after photographs, priority scheduling, preferred member pricing, service reminders, and discounted window and gutter add-ons. Annual suits properties with lighter contamination, biannual is what most residential systems run, and quarterly is designed for high-dust locations, significant bird activity, or commercial properties.
No. There is no contract and no cancellation fee. Change your cadence, pause, or stop whenever you want.
If visible spotting or residue caused by our cleaning appears within seven days, call us and we come back and re-clean the affected panels at no charge. No forms, no argument. Our full written guarantee terms, including what is and is not covered, are on the guarantee page.
Over the life of the system, that is the whole point of doing it. A solar panel makes electricity from the light that reaches the cells, so anything sitting on the glass, whether that is dust, pollen, mineral film, or bird droppings, is light the array never gets to use. Clearing it off lets the system work the way it was designed to, and on equipment you will own for twenty or thirty years, that adds up. What we will not do is put a percentage or a dollar figure on your array before we have seen it. How much any given system gains back depends on how soiled it actually was, the season, the weather, shading, and the equipment itself, and anyone quoting you a number without looking at your roof is guessing. We show you what came off the panels and photograph the before and after, so you can see the difference for yourself.
Windows, gutters, and add-ons
Yes, and it is the most common thing our solar customers add. Being on site already is the whole saving. You get one appointment, one crew, and one invoice instead of coordinating three companies. Solar Care Plan members get discounted pricing on both.
Interior and exterior of every accessible pane, screens removed and washed and reinstalled by opening, tracks and sills vacuumed and scrubbed and flushed, frames wiped, weep holes cleared, and our Aurix Clear™ RainGuard finish. Hard-water mineral removal is available for etched-looking glass.
Usually, yes. Hard water is a problem across all four valleys we serve, and the Antelope Valley is the hardest of them. We offer a dedicated mineral-removal treatment that brings etched-looking glass back to clear without re-grinding the surface. Severe long-term etching is not always fully reversible. We will tell you honestly what we can achieve before you pay for it.
Yes. We pressure wash driveways, walkways, patios, pool decks, and wood decks, and you can book it on its own or add it to a solar visit. Solar panels are the exception: we never pressure wash them. Panels get soft brushes and purified water.
Booking and general
Four valleys across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Santa Clarita Valley: Santa Clarita, Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch, and Castaic. San Fernando Valley: Porter Ranch, Northridge, Granada Hills, Chatsworth, West Hills, Woodland Hills, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, Studio City, Valley Village, and North Hollywood. Conejo Valley: Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Calabasas, Simi Valley, and Moorpark. Antelope Valley: Palmdale, Lancaster, and Quartz Hill. If you are nearby and do not see your city listed, just ask. We will confirm the same day.
Yes. Palmdale, Lancaster, and Quartz Hill are all on our list, and the high desert makes the strongest case for regular solar cleaning of any area we work in. They sit farther out than our core service area, so we group Antelope Valley jobs into the same trip rather than driving up for one at a time. Give us a little more notice than you would for a Santa Clarita job. The same applies to the Conejo Valley.
Yes. Aurix carries full liability insurance, and every technician is trained on the surfaces and systems they work on. We are happy to provide a certificate of insurance before we start if your HOA or property manager requires one.
A residential solar cleaning with the full assessment is typically one to two hours. Bird-proofing depends entirely on the perimeter footage and the access. Most residential arrays are completed in as little as one day. Adding windows or gutters extends the visit rather than adding a second one. We give you a realistic window when we book.
Card, check, Zelle, and all major digital wallets. Payment is due when the work is complete. We do not ask for a deposit on standard cleaning services. Bird-proofing installations are quoted separately and may require a materials deposit.
